Day 98: Meta-Analysis and Building Reading Muscles!

Objective: ASWBAT analyze SA #7 to determine areas of improvement. ASWBAT strengthen their reading muscles by choosing just-right books.


Hard work pays off. English is hard work. You can do it! I will not give up on you.

  • Skills Assessment #8 / Common Assessment #2 is Friday, February 17, 2012.


1. Finish your Metacognitive Analysis of SA #7 by using the Error Analysis of Skills Assessment #7. Complete a Meta-cognitive Analysis of Skills Assessment #7. Submit the link to your analysis here.

2. Read the directions for the STAR Reading Test and finish the STAR Reading Test.

3. Use the Parent Letter for SA #7 and update the Class Tracker using stickers. Then place SA #7 into your portfolio.

4. Find another piece of exemplary work dated after January 23rd and give it to Mr. Herrera to post onto the Student Work Wall. Then put it in the homework tray for your homeroom. Examples of acceptable work include:

  • Skills Assessment Parent Letters (Proficient or Advanced)
  • CFQ's (Proficient or Advanced)
  • Socratic Seminar Peer Graded Sheets (Proficient or Advanced)
  • Exemplary Reading Logs (completed with few or no mistakes)

5. Take a Metacognitive Bookmark that has reading codes and sentence starters and paste it onto the inside from cover of your Brain.

6. Update your table of contents in your Brain. Paste any missing pages into your Brain.

7. Check to make sure ALL tests, quizzes, Socratic Seminars, and CFQ's are inside your portfolio.

8. Make 2 Book Recommendations for the KIPP LA Prep Library using Scholastic Book Search and AR Book Find. Remember to choose 2 books that are interesting and on your level.

9. Check to make sure a peer has graded your Culminating Focus Question for "Thank You M'am". If they have not, find someone to grade your work. Then give it back to Mr. Herrera.

10. Label books in the class library using the Easy Labeling Directions.

1. Check out the class website for things to do if you are finished early!


Homework:
  1. Personal Reading (20 minutes)
  2. Complete the AR Book Response (must be neat and organized to receive credit)
  3. Finish anything you did not finish in class today
