Objective: ASWBAT identify and analyze details that indicate author's style and purpose. ASWBAT make connections between the events in The Crucible and the McCarthy Hearings.


1. Submit your homework.

2. Watch the first part of this video and then answer today's Quick Question: What was Senator Joseph McCarthy accusing people of? Why were Americans afraid of Communism?

3. Track Mr. Herrera as he explains Author's Tone and Voice. Take Cornell notes on page 41 of your Brain.


4. Track Mr. Herrera as he gives you Directions for Small Group Reading. Answer questions for The Crucible p. 13-22 on page 41 of your Brain.

5. Show what you have learned by answering today's Quickwrite: What in the text reveals Miller's position on the accusations of witchcraft?
