Day 109: Oldies, But Goodies (WS 1.3)

Objective: ASWBAT support thesis statements using opinions from experts, facts, and statistics.


Hard work pays off. English is hard work. You can do it! I will not give up on you.


Announcements:
  • Remember that it's your job to ask questions if you don't understand something.
  • Skills Assessment #9 is Friday, March 9, 2012.
  • Vocabulary Competition for Quarter 3 is in effect! Don't fall behind!

1. Complete the Do Now. How is today's image related to our lesson title? Why is it important for you to be able to recognize the kind of support given to thesis statements? Write down your response in the Do Now. Then look to see how you did on yesterday's Daily Assessment.

2. Track Mr. Herrera as he models how to support a thesis with different types of evidence. Use the graphic organizer and the articles passed out in class.

3. Work with your small group to analyze the support given to the thesis.

4. By yourself, analyze the support given to a thesis. Then submit your classwork here.

5. Complete the Daily Assessment.

6. Remember to give Mr. Herrera a new piece of student work you are proud of to put on the Student Work Wall.

1. Check out the class website for things to do if you are finished early!


Homework:
  1. Personal Reading (20 minutes)
  2. Complete the AR Book Response (must be neat and organized to receive credit)
  3. Be sure you have finished ALL of today's tasks
