Day 50: The Crucible (Day 12)

Objective: ASWBAT analyze how specific setting details in Act IV  of The Crucible affect the mood and tone of the story.


Hard work pays off. English is hard work. You can do it!


Announcements:

  • Skills Assessment #2 is tomorrow, Thursday, November 3, 2011.
  • Friday we will be going on a field trip to CSULA to see Phantom of the Opera. Your homeroom teacher will decide if you can go or not based on how much you display excellence and hard work in your classes.


1. Complete the Do Now.

2. Track Mr. Herrera as he reviews Author's Tone and Voice. Review your notes on page 41 of your Brain. Then track Mr. Herrera as he models analyzing setting details in The Crucible and "talking" to the text.

3. In your small group, read p. 112-120. Use the strategy of "talking" to the text.

4. Then work collaboratively to complete "Setting Details in The Crucible." The first two groups to finish online do not have to complete this assignment on paper. Everyone else will need to paste this assignment onto page 58 of your Brain. No printouts will be allowed.
  1. Log in to your GOOGLE account.
  2. Make a copy of the document (File > Make a Copy).
  3. Invite your table group teammates to the document (Share > Type in individual emails > Done).
  4. Join the document and begin working collaboratively ONLINE.
  5. Get a PAPER copy and fill it out. Then paste it onto page 58 of your Brain.
5. Quickwrite: What are the setting details in Act IV of The Crucible? Which setting details indicate suspense at the beginning of Act IV (p. 112)? Explain your answer.

  1. Read and annotate p. 121-127 of The Crucible.
