Hard work pays off. English is hard work. You can do it!
Announcements:
- Skills Assessment #3 is this Friday, November 18, 2011. We will have short days Tuesday-Friday of this week due to parent conferences. If you received a Basic or below on SA #2, I will be seeing you this week for some extra tutoring. If you received Proficient or above, continue to work hard to maintain your status.
- Remember that it's your job to ask questions if you don't understand something.
1. Complete the Do Now.
2. Engage in the class reading of The House on Mango Street: Context.
3. A vignette is a short scene that focuses on one moment and gives insight into an idea(s), a character(s), and/or a setting. The House on Mango Street is written through a series of vignettes. Read the first vignette called The House on Mango Street.
4. Now think about a scene related to where you live. Write your own vignette. Your vignette should (a) focus on the place where you live, (b) describe the scene in detail, and (c) be between half to a full page in length. Once you are finished, share your vignette with Mr. H and at least 2 others. Have fun reading each others vignettes!
Options for Academic Free Time:
1. Check out the class website for things to do if you are finished early!
Homework:
- Read pages 6-13 and annotate using your reading strategy bookmarks. You must write 5 comments using at least 3 different strategies.
