Day 66: Our Mission: College, To and Through!

Objective: ASWBAT accurately summarize text.


Hard work pays off. English is hard work. You can do it!


Announcements:
  • Remember that it's your job to ask questions if you don't understand something.
  • Common Assessment #1 is coming up this Friday! Be sure to ask for help if you don't understand something!
  • Monday we will be visiting Math and Science School (MASS). Classes will be 30 minutes long, lunch is at 10:30am, and we will be there from 11-1pm.
  • Next Friday is our 8th Grade End of Quarter #1 field trip. 45 students have qualified and will be going ice skating. Those who did not qualify will stay behind working hard. More details to come.


1. Look at the picture on today's post. What do you see? Do you recognize this picture? What is our mission in this class? How do you think our mission is similar to man's mission in this picture?

2. Take a look at our Class Word Bank. Open up to page 77 of your Brain and title the page "Word Bank Pop Quiz". Then define as many words as possible. You will be rewarded 1 point for every word you can accurately define. Show excellence in your writing. Your teammates will grade your work.

3. Open up to page 73 of your Brain. Engage in a class discussion about the answers to the questions and the reasons why. Fix any errors you have made. ASK QUESTIONS if you don't understand something.

4. Read p. 103-110 of The House on Mango Street individually or with your teammates and write 10 comments total about the 4 vignettes or chapters.

5. Quickwrite: What is our mission in this class? How is our mission similar to man's mission to land on the moon?


Options for Academic Free Time:

  1. Personal reading for 15 minutes -- Be sure to update your reading log
  2. Complete Common Assessment #1 Practice 2.0
  3. Study for the Word Bank Definitions
