Day 70: Proposition and Support

Objective: ASWBAT identify and analyze proposition and support patterns.


Hard work pays off. English is hard work. You can do it!


Announcements:
  • Remember that it's your job to ask questions if you don't understand something.
  • Now that Common Assessment #1 is over, you know which standards you have and have not mastered. It is your job to make sure that you either continue to master or make up any standards you did not master. 
  • Skills Assessment #4 is next Thursday, December 15, 2011 and it will be your opportunity to continue to master or make up the following standards: RW 1.2, RC 2.2, RC 2.3, RC 2.4, and RL 3.2. If the standard you have not mastered is not on this list, talk to Mr. Herrera about how to make it up outside of regular class time.
  • This Friday is our 8th Grade End of Quarter #1 field trip. You will be notified this week if you have qualified to attend.

0. Look at the Table of Contents and see if there are any pages you still need to paste. Do that now.

1. Track Mr. Herrera as he goes over today's Word Bank entry and explains Proposition and Support. Take Cornell notes on page 82 of your Brain. Ask questions if you're confused!

2. As a class, read The Name Game and answer questions related to proposition and support patterns on page 83 of your Brain. Ask questions if you are confused!

3. Now, with your small group, read Turn Off Your TV! and answer questions related to proposition and support patterns on page 83 of your Brain. Ask questions if you are confused!

4. Quickwrite: Define the following terms: proposition, support. How are they related to each other? In your answer you must have a definition for proposition, a definition for support, and an explanation of how they are related.

5. If you finish, go to the Early Finishers page to choose how to spend your academic free time.

  1. Personal reading for 15 minutes -- Be sure to update your reading log.
  2. Word Bank Illustrated Vocabulary and Vocabulary Story.
