1. Complete the Do Now. Do your best as this will count as part of your classwork grade.
2. Today you will learn how to figure out the meaning of unknown words in context. Track Mr. Herrera as he presents Using Context Clues and take Cornell notes on page 50 of your Brain. Then track Mr. Herrera as he models using context clues.
3. In your small group, read pages 67-71 and use the strategy of "talking" to the text. After you read, copy the Context Clues Part I chart and onto page 51 of your Brain and complete it.
4. Quickwrite: Explain one strategy you learned today to figure out the meaning of an unknown word. Then explain how "talking" to the text helps you understand what you're reading.
